Plan and Details

The child has one intuitive aim: self development. He desperately wants to develop his resources, his ability to cope with a strange, complex world. He wants to do and see and learn for himself through his senses and not through the eyes of an adult. He becomes a full person. He is educated.”

Bellingham Christian Elementary School

The elementary school is located on the Sunset campus. Our elementary school serves students in 1st through 4th grade. We have 5 first/second grade classrooms and 4 third/fourth grade classrooms. Our classrooms are multiage learning environments where students learn and grow together across more than one grade level, allowing teachers to work with students (and families) for 2 years in a row. We take a developmental, child-centered approach while engaging children in a curriculum with a biblical worldview.  We acknowledge that we all develop and learn at different paces, this reflects how God made us each unique. Our multiage classrooms allow for greater flexibility and differentiation in meeting children’s needs whether that be children who are performing below, at, or beyond grade level standards.  Our elementary classrooms focus on collaboration, leadership development, and project based curriculum that is meant to invite, nurture, and empower our learners. Using a mixture of group sizes and instructional strategies, we aim to help meet kids where they are on their learning journey. Students learn to use a growth mindset as they complete rigorous tasks that encourage creative and critical thinking, gracious communication skills, joy-filled collaborating, while building resiliency and reflective thinking. Science and social studies units include field trips, guest speakers, and opportunities to complete real world work for actual people to meet a genuine need. Our curriculum standards are aligned with state and national standards while centered around a biblical worldview.
